Simulation exercise: Sheep pox in Kazakhstan

Dr Samat Tyulegenov, Delegate to WOAH and Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Veterinary Control and Surveillance of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, informed WOAH that the Veterinary Services of the Republic of Kazakhstan will conduct a simulation exercise on sheep pox. The exercise will take place from 19 to 21 April 2023 on the Zimovtsev farm of the Bastobe rural district, Karatal district, Zhetysu region.

The exercise aims to assess the preparedness of the Veterinary Services to respond to the occurrence of sheep pox and enhance the control of the disease by improving the efficiency of the national Veterinary Services responsible for disease control, in line with WOAH recommendations and standards.

Various stakeholders will participate in the simulation exercise: representatives of research institutes, state veterinary organizations, territorial inspections of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emergency situations authorities, internal affairs bodies, institutions of sanitary and epidemiological control, and healthcare organizations of the Karatal region.
