Simulation Exercise: Rift Valley Fever in Spain

20 October 2021

Dr Valentín Almansa, Director General for Agricultural Production Health and Delegate to the OIE, informed the OIE that on 20 October Spain carried out a simulation exercise dedicated to Rift Valley Fever (RVF) in an online format and with the collaboration of the European Commission for the Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (EuFMD).

The exercise involved Animal and Public Health Services at central and regional level, as well as the network of official national and regional animal health reference laboratories.

The general objectives of the simulation exercise were to raise awareness about RVF, to evaluate the protocols in place for the management of RVF outbreaks, and to evaluate the coordination and communication between the Animal Health and Public Health Services to ensure a “One Health” response in case this disease occurs in Spain.
