Simulation exercise: OIE Regional Workshop in Middle East and North Africa

11 to 13 July

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) is organizing, with INTERPOL, a regional workshop that includes a table top exercise entitled “Veterinary Services and Law Enforcement: Protecting People, Protecting Economies, Protecting Animal Resources, Preserving Our Future” from 11 to 13 July 2017 for 10 countries of Middle East and North Africa. Other international organizations such as: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and World Health Organization (WHO) are also providing expertise in support of the workshop and exercise.

The workshop and exercise backs the key area in the OIE’s Biological Threat Reduction Strategy entitled “International Cooperation and Solidarity between Countries”. The table top exercise will simulate a deliberate release of a virus with the aim to establish functional links between the veterinary health and security / law enforcement sectors, identify gaps and detect strengths and weaknesses as well as to make recommendations to sustainably improve preparedness and response.
