Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Slovenia-3

Dr Simona Salamon, Deputy Director General, Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection (AFSVSPP), Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Ljubljana, informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place from 2 to 4 June 2015 in Slovenia.

The exercise, prepared in collaboration with the Veterinary faculty, University of Ljubljana, Veterinary unit of Slovene army, Civil Services and Municipality of Ko?evje, will focus on the implementation of measures in case of an outbreak of FMD.

Representatives of Veterinary services, Veterinary unit of Slovene army, Police and Civil Services will practice implementation of the measures in case of an outbreak, e.g. establishing protection and surveillance zones, setting up the disinfection points, blocking the roads, cleaning and disinfection of vehicles, facilities, etc.

Students from Veterinary faculty will also attend the simulation exercise, as it is part of educational process at the Veterinary faculty.
