Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in New Zealand-5

POSTPONED  (as of  19/02/15) - 17 to 19 March

Dr Matthew Stone, Director Animal and Animal Products, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) of New Zealand, Wellington, informed the OIE that a table-top simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place from 17 to 19 March 2015 in Auckland, New Zealand.

This three day New Zealand National Response simulation exercise is part of the annual National Biosecurity Capability Network (NBCN) training schedule and will be a large scenario based exercise with similarities to a FMD outbreak.

The exercise will be an internal table-top exercise involving about 140 people from member organisations of the NBCN. These organisations are from the public sector, local Government and Central Government.

The training course this year focuses on expert roles such as:

  •  permitting
  •  risk assessment
  •  tracing
  •  visit coordination
  •  and infected place coordination.

New Zealand is free from FMD and this is a simulation exercise only.
