Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Denmark

Dr Jan Mousing, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration informed the OIE that a real-time alert simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place in Denmark between 23 and 24 September 2009.

Its overall objective is to test the Danish contingency plans for control of FMD and for strategy and resources. The three regional veterinary control offices will be involved in this exercise.

The exercise will focus on management of suspicion and outbreaks of FMD including on-farm measures, cleansing and disinfection, disposal of dead animals, crisis organisation and communication during crises.
