Simulation Exercise: Fish Aeromonosis in the Republic of Kazakhstan

Dr Samat Tyulegenov, Delegate to WOAH and Head of Departement of Planning of Veterinary measures and Monitoring of Public Services of the Committee of Veterinary Control and supervision, informed WOAH that a simulation exercise for fish aeromonosis took place on May 26, 2023, in the reservoir Kapchagay of the city of Kunaev, Almaty region, Kazakhstan.

The exercise aimed to assess the preparedness of the veterinary service to respond to the occurrence of fish aeromonosis and enhance the control of the disease by improving the efficiency of the national veterinary services responsible for disease control, in line with the recommendations and standards of the WOAH.

The exercise involved participation of various stakeholders, including representatives of research institutes, state veterinary organizations, territorial inspections of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Balkhash-Alakol Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate of the Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emergency situations authorities, internal affairs bodies, institutions of sanitary and epidemiological control, and healthcare organizations of the Almaty region.
