Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Turkey 6

25 to 29 April

Dr Nihat Pakdil, Deputy Undersecretary, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, informed the OIE that joint real-scale simulation exercises on avian influenza will take place in Kestel district of Bursa Province from 25 to 29 April 2016.

The overall aim of these exercises is to maintain the response skills of the Veterinary Services. The simulation exercises will include table-top and field exercises.

The specific objectives are to:

  • test the Avian Influenza Contingency Plan and train staff on its implementation;
  • test operational response arrangements;
  • examine the liaison and interdependencies between the key operational partners; and
  • consider the impact of the disease as a zoonotic infection.
