Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Nicaragua-2

27 to 30 June

Dr Wilmer José Juárez Juárez, Director of Animal Health, Institute for Plant Protection and Animal Health of Nicaragua (IPSA), informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on avian influenza that will take place in Nicaragua from 27 to 30 June 2017.

This simulation exercise is part of the continuous training process of the technicians of the Official Veterinary Services of Animal Health.

The specific objectives are to:

  • test the response capacity of the Public Institutions, the Official Veterinary Services as well as private veterinarians when facing an outbreak of avian influenza  in the country;
  • strengthen biosecurity and epidemiological surveillance measures linked to the prevention of avian influenza.


Seventy (70) professionals will participate to this exercise. Among them will be administrative personnel from IPSA, veterinarians from the Official Veterinary Services, departments of quarantine, traceability, veterinary diagnostic laboratory, the Ministry of Health, the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief (SINAPRED), town halls, the Army of Nicaragua, the National Police Force, as  well as professionals from the private sector and producers.
