Simulation exercise: African Swine Fever in Switzerland

September and 2 – 4 November 2021

Prof Dr Hans Wyss, Chief Veterinary Officer, Director of the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) and Delegate to the OIE, informed the OIE that an African Swine Fever (ASF) national simulation exercise called “NOSOS-21” will be conducted over two sessions from September to 4 November 2021:

  • Phase 1: outbreak alert and response – September 2021
  • Phase 2: full exercise – 2, 3 and 4 November 2021

This exercise had been planned for 2020 but was unfortunately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The overall aim of this exercise is to exercise the national and cantonal contingency plans and disease control strategies for a national outbreak of ASF. The simulation exercise will include field exercises as well.

An exercise observation will be conducted centrally and decentral by the exercise command and an exercise evaluation will take place.

Switzerland will in this manner further enhance the way any possible future outbreaks are managed and controlled, by improving the contingency plans, instructions, and procedures employed in multi-disciplinary disease outbreak response.
