Dr Wen-Jane Tu, Chief Veterinary Officer, Deputy Director General, Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine of Chinese Taipei, informed the OIE that in response to the increasing threat of Africa swine fever (ASF) in the region, a second interdepartmental simulation exercise on ASF named “2019 National ASF Contingency Simulation Exercise” will take place on 28 June 2019 in Tainan City, Chinese Taipei.
The scenarios of this exercise are as follows:
- A commercial pig farm is suspected of being infected with ASF. During the exercise, the participants will do practices on procedures including disease reporting, veterinary inspection, sample collection, movement control and epidemiological investigation.
- After confirmation of the ASF outbreak, the City Government will immediately establish its ASF Disaster Response Center. The Veterinary Services will practise the stamping out operation with assistance from the police agency in controlling the surrounding area and from the army in disinfection and disposing the culled animals. A demonstration of a newly equipped GPS system on animal transportation vehicles as a tool in tracing backward and forward of possible routes of disease transmission will also be carried out.
