Simulation exercise: African and classical swine fevers and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Czech Republic

Dr Milan Malena, Chief Veterinary Officer, State Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Agriculture, Prague, informed the OIE that a table-top simulation exercise on selected exotic animal diseases, namely African swine fever (ASF), classical swine fever (CSF) and highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is taking place in Brno, Southern Moravian Region from 13 to 14 December 2011.

This exercise will be carried out in cooperation with the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic.

The exercise will target on experience with eradication of ASF, CSF and HPAI outbreaks with forces and means involved for this purpose.

The objectives of this exercise are:

  1. Practicability and update of ASF, CSF and HPAI contingency plans;
  2. Equipment, available forces and means for exotic disease outbreaks eradication;
  3. Possibilities of mutual cooperation between the Czech Republic and Slovakia regarding exotic disease outbreaks eradication;
  4. Validate the consistency of interactions between teams and evaluate the decision and communication processes when facing an animal health crisis.
