Description

The missions of the OIE include the design of surveillance and control methods for infectious transboundary animal diseases (including zoonoses), the provision of guarantees concerning veterinary public health and food safety, and the promotion of animal welfare. Moreover, in accordance with the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the OIE is responsible for setting standards to ensure the safety of international trade in animals and animal products.
