Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Turkey-8

4 to 8 February - 25 February to 1 March

Dr Nihat Pakdil, Deputy Undersecretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, informed the OIE that two joint real-scale simulation exercises on foot and mouth disease (FMD) will take place in the Province of Sanliurfa from 4 to 8 February 2019 and in the Province of Izmir from 25 February to 1 March 2019.

The overall aim of these exercises is to maintain the response skills of the Veterinary Services. These simulation exercises will include table-top and field exercises.

The specific objectives are to:

  • test the Foot and Mouth Contingency Plan and train staff on its implementation;
  • test operational response arrangements;
  • examine the liaison and interdependencies between the key operational partners;
  • consider the impact of the disease as a zoonotic infection.
