ADIS, the EU Animal Disease Information System connected to WAHIS

Strengthening Animal Disease Transparency: The  Animal  Disease  Information  System  (ADIS)  is  an  innovative  digital  platform developed by the European Union (EU) to streamline the collection and analysis of animal health data. In 2021, the new EU legal framework provided by the Animal Health Law officially replaced  ADNS with  the Animal  Disease  Information  System  (ADIS) as  the  rapid alert  system  for  promptly  notifying  and  managing  animal  disease  outbreaks across  Europe.  Building  on  this  success,  the  European  Union  has  achieved  a major  step  forward  by  interconnecting  ADIS  with  the  World  Animal  Health Information System (WAHIS). This  partnership  with  the  World  Organisation  for  Animal  Health  (WOAH)represents  a  landmark  moment  in  how  animal  health  data  is  collected,  shared,and utilised, both within the EU and globally. Previously, each EU Member State had to report the same outbreaks separately in both ADIS  and  WAHIS,  leading  to  duplicated  efforts  and  a  higher  risk  of  data discrepancy. The  European  Commission  and  WOAH  agreed  to  take  on  the challenge of connecting ADIS and WAHIS to create a streamlined, interoperable reporting process for the EU Member States and associated countries using ADIS,which are also WOAH Members. This brochure highlights the benefits of the ADIS/WAHIS collaboration.
