Implementation of Welfare Standards During Transport by Land and Sea: Insights from Animal Welfare Focal Points Across WOAH Regions

Following a global survey of Animal Welfare Focal Points on the implementation of WOAH standards on animal welfare during transport, a qualitative investigation was carried out to explore the subject in greater depth. Sixteen interviews and two focus groups were conducted with Animal Welfare Focal Points across all WOAH Regions between June and October 2025, examining the practical realities, barriers and success factors shaping the implementation of these standards.
