AHG Report: 3rd meeting on the revision of Chapter 6.2. ‘Principles of responsible and prudent use of antimicrobial agents in aquatic animals’
In their previous two meetings, the ad hoc Group drafted a revised version of Chapter 6.2 ‘Principles of Responsible and Prudent Use of Antimicrobial Agents in Aquatic Animals’ of the Aquatic Animal Health Code (hereafter the ‘Aquatic Code’). This drafted version was presented to the Aquatic Animals Commission, during its September 2025 meeting. The Commission suggested expanding the section corresponding to the responsibilities of the Competent Authorities to resemble more closely to the version of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code. It was also suggested to include more examples of aquaculture for purposes other than human consumption aside from ornamental aquatic animals.
The following section of this report notes proposed additional changes to Chapter 6.2. and the rationale for these changes.
